Ears are no longer necessary

Monday, August 25th, 2008

have been trying for the last couple of weeks to figure out whether to release a new physical album or simply try and only make it available as download. Its not finished yet mind you, but I have been working on some tracks for some time now, and they are definitely going to see the sunlight in a not too distant future.Whether it´ll be from inside a cd-case or presented as zeros and ones, I dont know yet ( yes okay I know cd is also zero and ones).

From the artists point of view its definitely a nice thing to finish 10 songs and present them as a whole, kind of a description of where you are now. Its a little package that you can fit under the tree, hold in your hand and you can say: “hey, that was that. Lets take a break and make another one” – go on a live tour if you are that kind of a band.

On the other hand its a great feeling to be able to make a track, finish it, and off it goes. This is where I am now and this is the latest track. I guess thats kind of a fun thing to do. It doesnt necessaryly mean that things are getting rushed, but you dont have that couple of months to go and listen to the tracks together and in different order. Thats the downside.

I guess its just tradition really. LPs made it possibly to collect 40 minutes of music in one product so the artists just worked in that direction. Noone said it had to be that way. Bach just composed some of his music so it fitted into the mass where he was employed at some point. Mozart wrote music for classical instruments and 500 years from now we can compose without lifting a hand, just transmitting the brainwaves from a special music center in the brain, through a computer/weird new fancy device, and directly into other peoples brains.

Ears will no longer be necessary to be able to hear music. Music is a condition in the brain and all medias such as CDs, LPs, MP3s and so on, is just there to make the connection between the minds. Hell, maybe not even a computer is necessary – just a cable from one brain and into the other.

No medias, no merchants, no…… no money? Hmm… got to work a little on the businessplan. I´ll be back.

My album is out soon – on brain waves. Catch them if you can! Chill out, chillout and downbeat waves

what ever happened to the e-bomb?

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Does anyone know? It was a big thing I seem to remember, but somehow its forgotten by the public or doesnt interest people as much as mortgages and offshore accounts and all that stuff your inner materialists dreams are made off. I seem to remember it was a bomb designed for deleting all electronic information from computers and electronic devices that works with computertechnology, that is to say, nearly everything that isnt organic. All the zeroes and ones just wiped out. Everything on your computer just gone forever including your backup of years of work, family pictures, letters and correpondance. Your car is not working, your heating is not working, the economic system is totally in its knees because everything is stored electronically. All information about every citizen is gone from the archives – in the western world anyway. Every digitally stored piece of information blown away from the earth.

Hmm, makes you wonder how bad it would really be to drop one of those. (Wouldnt wanna hurt anybody physically though – I am not sure how the impact of such a bomb is.)

From my little corner it would hit just about every aspect of my work – nearly.

Take it a bit further and imagine it was forever. All computers blown away or just not working anymore. We could use them to put stuff on and the kids could demolish them in the backyard and play with them. Okay I admit I am a bit off now, but its a funny thought.

It just struck me that I would be pretty lost without my computer these days. I seems like middle ages when I think back of the time in the middle nineties when I learned to write an email and really didnt have a clue why I needed to do that. Never got any back?

Anyway, any news of the E bomb is much appreciated. I hope ofcourse it never existed and I only dreamed it together with 90 percent of modern history of man. Cheer up now, its a sunny day.. again and again and again. I´ll go down and produce some chill out and downbeat tracks. That´ll help for sure. :-)

Music doesnt exist

Monday, August 25th, 2008

So evening time is here. Feet on the table, day is almost dead and buried and I am soon to slip into the nice cozy unknown. Is that reality, the stuff that “happens” in dreams? ? Most people would say no – its just a dream, not real. But you can only put words on this stuff when you´re awake right? Ok so, is music not abstract? I would definitely say it doesnt get more abstract than that. If music is anything, its a condition in your mind. A feeling of some kind you might say or a meaning – non linear logic – something that happens before intellect – dreams?

Chemistry in some special parts of the brain is what we have chosen to call music some would say. Boring boring.

Yes ofcourse if you get all technical and boring,it gets down to playing a bassline and get your neighbeur to improvise over it while you record it and then dub him with a waterhose or siamese twins or some planets colliding in your backyard. A song, a beat and a bass and some stuff. Ofcourse thats pretty obvious and very real and non abstract, but it would never make any sense to play that bassline and record that second reversed counterpoint,if there was noone around with a brain to dechifer (that is not the right way to spell it, sorry) the soundwaves clashing into your skulle through your ears.

Music is abstract, I am sure of it. Music doesnt really exist. It is actually pretty amazing that it has such a big role to play in many peoples lifes, considered the heavy focus on material goods in our part of the world. Maybe thats what should tell us that we have a chance of evolving as a species. Or else, the heavy output of crappy consumer music tells us we are going down down down together with a whole new bunch of nontransparent financial tricks that lets us sell stuff that doesnt really exist – exept in our dreams. Goodnight. Sweet dubby downbeat chill out dreams.

Lets build malls and migrate to the moon!

Monday, August 25th, 2008

SO a brandnew day emerges here i Copenhagen. Lots of sunshine today and nice temperatures says the weatherman. I am sitting at home doing office stuff before heading down to the studio, which fortunately is right around the corner from where I live now. Perfect – I think. Its not so much “I am going to the office see you later honey” as “I am going down in my backyard where I have a little setup with no water but lots of noise from cars and contracters working on the soon-to-be mall next door. Amazing – another mall. Just what the doctor ordered for our little rock. Lets spend some more money or stuff we dont need – or our teenagers dont need – and try to run down this planet a little sooner by boosting production of goods all over the world. Fantastic! Seems almost like a plan. The mad economic scientists are gathered for their monthly meeting in the “how-soon-can-we-run-down-this-planet” club. And-sell-people-our-new-idea: “Imigration to the moon?” This old rock is not working anymore. Lets find a new place to f… up. Great for economy and poor people in China and India who wants so much to join our club of “happy people with 2,5 kids, a house in the suburbs and a car”. Not so good for our planet, but hey!: I didnt choose this planet – it chose me. Its obviously not working for so many more years – with humans on it anyway – so lets make the most of it.

I will definitely work hard on the solutions of these problems today (not the contracters noise in my studio mind you), by moving small chunks of what looks like little black fish back and forth on a computerscreen and mixing them in the right level and maybe make some noise and record in a microphone. Thats my contribution to this universe today – oh and yelling at noisy contracters.

I want to build a rocket

Monday, August 25th, 2008

So, had a bit of a slow day in the studio. I have been digging into an old vocal track that I have never been able to finish off properly. It just seemed to never get anywhere near a finish line. I have worked on it for days, then left it for months and months. Then worked on it again, trying to fit it into my latest album “Dont wake me up”, by making it all instrumental. It just didnt happen and I left it. This is actually not so bad, happens all the time, that you get tired of a track and start working on something new and then return later to find that your have a new idea or approach that fits perfect for the track. And this is exately what happened with this track. I have “found” it again so to say. All the ingredients are there, the mix is okay and there is only a bit of production work missing. Some messing with kaoss pad and some tweaking on the vocals. Some dubbing and some overall compressor and voila. I put it in my phone to listen to it while I take a walk in the neighberhood or drive somewhere to look for a horizon. Horizons are great for getting lost in thoughts or listening to music. The ocean is a good place to get lost and perfect for checking out an arrangement or hearing your track 15 times in a row to find out which darlings has to die today and what works.

Anyway, I hope to soon write again that the track is finished and that its the best work I have ever done. Another great step forward for humanity, a moonlanding of a track.

Sometimes I wish I could contribute to the world in a way less abstract than making music and nursing my own little arty career project.

Maybe I can build a rocket and discover a new planet with an athmosphere like ours and with people who breathe music instead of oxygen and who eats Ganga chill out and downbeat for dinner every day. Okay I am in a loop now. If you are still with me then… sorry about that little detour. Music is still…sort of … okay.

new track “Uran”

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Hi Everyone.

Check out this new track that I am really exited about. Its called Uran and it autoplays here: www.myspace.com/gangalounge. Again its Helle Chirholm that delivers the vocal for this mysterious track. I´ll buy a bottle of champagne for those who guess the lyrics and gets them right the whole song through – lol. Helle Chirholm is a master of improvising lyrics and this is no exeption. Get ready – here it comes. Its the real stuff from the uncounscioussness, not filtered by the intellect in any way. Listen to these lyrics and connect…….it´ll mean something to you, because you want to place it in some framework connected to the logic of your mind. This is one way of making it work. The other way is to just let it in while staring into the ceiling, just feeling your body becoming dense and light. Then you´ll know what she means.

new video for down but up by mysterious mr. x

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Yesterday I stumbled over this great little video that someone – apparently named mickey todiwala – put together for one of the songs from my latest album. I think the footage used is from the man who wasnt there. Really nice put together and matches the lyrics in the song. Okay, I must admit it kind of gives the words another meaning, but its great anyway. Check it out for yourself, you kan see it here:

New track “Countryside”

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Check out this new track called “Countryside”. It features vocalist Helle Chirholm who took a wild turn and ended up in a mythological landscape, full of odd shaped skies and voices from above and everywhere else.I dont know where she went and what she really did, but I sure would have liked to have been there with her. Experiencing that rollercoaster ride of a nice little walk in the countryside.

This track is still downtempo/chill, but with some trance/ electro elements in it also. Hope you will enjoy it. Listen here: www.myspace.com/gangalounge

Lyrics Uran

Monday, August 25th, 2008

I finally got the lyrics for the weird track Uran. I read them and thought for a minute I was a little wiser…..but no, not really. They are still very mysterious and Björk like in their non grammatical weirdness. Its like a poem where the meaning is hidden very well..very very well. Its grand words indeed by Helle Chirholm and I love them. Okay enough of that stuff. I will publish it at a later time, when there is a demand for it – or not.

Its sunday evening on this crazy planet and the first day of spring hit the city today with its bursts of light and feelgood. Streets crawling with pale people looking up into the sun to get some more of that stuff. Its like small creeps crawling out from under the stone where they hide all winter, every cafe and green spot invaded again – finally, by people hungry for life – or something.

Listened to Battles EP today – wicked stuff. Check them out live if you can, they are amazing. Its not chill out or downbeat, and they make the most wonderful sounds.

Studio Karma

Monday, August 25th, 2008

I just moved my studio from one part of town to another. From Nørrebro to Vesterbro. Found a nice little house to put all my stuff into and start working in. Amazing and a little scary also, to start out a totally new place. Hopefully some good vibes will hit me through those big windows in the ceiling – I didnt have those before. Its like an open connection to that big blue thing up there. Looking forward to it. As a start the karma here is more of a “this is a very old and abandoned house” kind of thing. No water yet, it´ll come, but nice rooms and a smell of…. I dont know what that is actually – just old stuff. Water is right now coming from outside the building, so when my neighbeur parks his car in the wrong spot I cant have my coffee. Damn! But I can still work without coffee if I just have….. I dont know what it is I need actually. Maybe just some life around me. Sometime its a walk you need, sometimes a nap, sometimes a kiss or a hotdog or some crazy bugger smashing in to your car on the freeway or those trees swaying in the air or that normally very busy street suddenly turning empty or the funny light on that building or that smell in your friends studio.

I actually know this guy who really has a thing for smells. Before a session – or when he really needs that special inspiration – he will aopen a package of incense or some other funny stuff that smells. Sounds crazy, but it works for him I guess.

Ok thats it for now. I think, I am gonna the streets of Copenhagen now and get something to eat. Beautiful light, beautiful city this time of year actually.

Dont forget to listen to some chill out and downbeat. Just listened to Herbie Hancock “Treasure Chest” – great stuff. Not too funky – which he gets a lot in my opinion.
