I was just introduced to a new – new to me anyway – way of advertising.
I pass through a local mall just where I live, to get to my nearest supermarket, and on that trip I pass this shoe shop.
I am not really into women shoes, so I never really looked at the windows.
Sales are very bad in this new mall, and the shops are closing one after the other to move to better and more lucrative locations.
So this day I pass the shop, and while passing it, I hear a breathy female voice over their soundsystem, breathing the shops name in a very sensual way.
It was nearly a bit spooky. I think they must have put up some speaker outside only with this purpose – every time someone passes - or just once in a while, you hear the name of the shop, soaked in delay and reverb. Smart thinking maybe.
It slips into your mind when you pass the shop. You don’t even have to look at the shop. Its enough for you to just pass it and you will have the name of the shop embroidered in your mind forever.
I don’t like that really.
Its like the commercials where they put small snippets of footage that you don’t notice on a conscious level, but its there and it tells you to buy their crappy soft drink or go and kill your family or whatever.
Or was that really a joke that just stuck, or did they really do that at some point. I have to find out. Any comments on this are welcome.
This shit sneaks into your mind. Like music – dangerous stuff that music also. Sneak in… stays in… changes you.. maybe.
I am off.
