The night must happen, new vocals and Grace Jones

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Evening time and waiting for the night to happen. Played yesterday at a local cocktail bar called Barbarellah. A chill out downbeat DJ set and a middlesection only with Ganga tracks – sort of a Ganga live set, but without keyboards, melodica, percussion and vocals. Just the computer and a DJ mixer.

Kind of fun to play this way really. A nice way to play some music you like for some people having a good night out. At the end of the set I play more uptempo stuff and this is really fun too.

Anyways… evening is here waiting for the night to happen. Might catch a movie in the local cinema Vester Vov Vov. Cozy little art cinema. They show that documentary with the guy line dancing between the twin towers. He did this many years ago obviously.

Heights are vscary, but I think this is one of the reasons I want to see this movie.

Its like the feeling you get when you are near to the edge. You are staring down into that abyss, and its fascinating to look down in the depth of your own subconsciousness. Dont look to long though, it will drag you in and show you the other side. And you dont wanna go there yet.

First the movie, then the night must happen…

I am making new plans with my album. Incorporating new stuff and recording new parts and I have plans for some interesting vocals from a secret singer that has agreed to work with me on some tracks.

I kind of reviewed the album after my trip to Dubai. Decided to warm things up a bit with more organic sounds.

So its gonna take some time before the album finishes I reckon.

It has a life of its own now. I am just following the guide lines. Like a slave… not for the rhythm, but the… eh…album.

By the way, speaking of “slave to the rhythm”, Grace Jones made a new album which contains some nice

tracks. Check it out and enjoy.

Ganga, chill out downbeat music? A way of singing apparently.

Monday, January 19th, 2009

What do you know?
I thought my bandname was the name of an indian holy river that originates from 3 holy places in India. Badrintah, Kedernath and Gangotri. That is also true ofcourse, but now I learn its a way of singing also.
Here is what wikipedia writes of Ganga:
Ganga is a type of singing from rural Croatia and Herzegovina. It is characterized by a lone singer singing one line of lyrics and then others joining in for what can be described as a wail. It is a very passionate form of singing, which is one of the reasons it has been limited in popularity to small towns. However, several popular Croatian musicians have incorporated some ganga into their work. Only recently has ganga begun to address political issues, frequently adopting overtly nationalistic overtones and incorporating themes from the Croatian Homeland War. Although both men and women perform ganga, it is extremely unusual for them to perform songs together. In the past, it was not unusual for both Catholic and Muslim men to perform ganga together.
Well, I am not sure whether this is a main interest to anyone but me, but its nonetheless a fact that Ganga is not only a chill out downbeat music act from Denmark. It is not only the first half of Ganga Giri or a holy river in India.
Its a singing practice from centraleurope.
Maybe some more vocal tracks would be appropriate.:-)

Life on Mars they say… cool eh!

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

I just read that there might be life on Mars.
Really! Its true.
So what to make from it?
The final proof for something we all knew? Life on Mars….not just an album titel.

What kind of music would they make up there… or is it out there? Ambient, warmusic, chill out, downbeat, noiserock, noise?
Maybe no music at all! Who are they?
Mindless creatures? Mindless music, mindless music.

Mabe no need to express themselves with music, maybe no need for expression at all. Maybe no…. minds. Maybe noone minds. Maybe just ….. good old boring…..LIFE!
Nothing for the schrinks to jump all over.

2009 is here…where are we?

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Just got back from a little trip abroad playing a few gigs and making some holiday also. And suddenly it turned 2009. Now I am back and sitting in front of a new day and thinking I have to make plans for the new year, what to do next, project planning, be effective, use your timeto get the most out of it.

Well ofcourse I have some plans and projects going on, rather a lot actually, and asked about which, I can outline them quite easily… maybe just forgetting one little project. So I know what kind of work I have waiting in front of me.

But it just struck me, that the most valuable thing for me to do workwise, would be to do the things in the order that I feel like. That would certainly keep me – somewhat – free of stress.

That means finishing the new website when I feel like it and not when I feel that I MUST because of some plan I made in a hazy moment. That would make a huge impact on my everyday life – working life that is. To do the chill out downbeat tracks when I want to and to finish the office stuff when I want to. Ofcourse stuff have to be done at some point, but in the long run it would free up a lot of space in my head to be able to do the things when I feel like it. I dont make way money enough to be stressed about stuff like that.

So much for a plan. Lets see how far it goes. Right now I have to delete 205 spam comments on this blog. Or should I wait to when I REALLY feel like doing it? :-)
