Here is a chance to find out what happened to that band. Or part of it anyway, namely the lead singer Noel McCalla.

I vaguely remember the band playing in my hometown in Copenhagen many years ago, but its so vaguely remembered by my tired brain, that I am not even too sure about it really happened or I just heard about it.

Anyway there is a new CD – yes a physical CD, remember them, out on Irma records right now that features him together with BLADE & MASQUENADA FAMILY.

Its very very funky players that hey have found here, and the production is so funky that I almost forgot how it

sounds when you go all the way with this kind of music and production. But its like a walk down a street you havent

walked in 25 years or something. Here is what they write about it in the press release:

Blade & Masquenada Family project starts back in 2000, its a well structured idea takes shape, conceived by Alessandro Staderini AKA ‘Blade’ (a well known International DJ in his own right and founder member of the seminal Funk Producers ‘Jestofunk’ and Francesco Ballerini (A studio Producer with many years of experience on his back). Collaborating with a variety of Vocalists and musicians, Blade & Masquenada Family release Two Albums : “Uma Viagen Nu Tempo” and “Gaugain Vision” On their own inprint ‘Cavernjatt’, the Albums are very well received both from Music lovers around the globe and the Press. Now, thanks to a brand new collaboration with IRMA records their Third Album Is about to be released, the work is quite unusually titled “dove scorrono tranquissime le mie polifonie”, where they choose to work with the English Singer Noel  McCalla (better known as the Lead Singer with Historical Band ‘Manfred Mann’s Earth Band). All in all, an Album full of nice rich sounds exploring through P-Funk, Nu-Soul and Electronic and often reaching colourful peaks of Mexican vibes, which is where Blade lives happily since 2005, playing and producing his funky music.

ganga when i close my eyes

It might be old news to release remixes of an old track, but neverteless this is what we have done now.

Its one of the vocal tracks from “More light please” (released 2009 on Flinc Music).

“When I close my eyes” is one of my favourite tracks from this album, and its a track that was written a few years back actually. When I was working on “Dont wake me up” – it just didnt seem to fit at that album at that time.

The vocalist is Cecilie Acklon from Copenhagen, Denmark, who also contributed with her beautiful vocals on two

tracks on the album “Dont wake me up” from 2007 – “Scratch” and “Strange Paradise” – both tracks co-produced with Buda from Lulu Rouge by the way.

On this new EP there are remixes from a wide range of artists.

Massivan from Formentera, Spain is contributing with two very different mixes of the track. An uptempo version and a downtempo version.You can hear his production style very clearly on both tracks.

Then we have an uptempo progressive mix from Morten Yde, who recently remixed my track “Sweet Morning” for Black Hole Recordings. This mix is a typical track from him, and its sure to set some dance floors on fire while the moon is dancing.

Then german reggae specialist and roducer Razoof contributes with his “Razoof & Emanuels Duba Illic Mix” – beautiful downtempo with lots of nice reggae vibes to go around. A nice sunset mix for the hammock or whereever you prefer to chill out when the sun is setting.

Last but not least Haranaki provides a cool minimal mix to level thing out. Clubby but still mellow.

To top things off, there is a bonus instrumental mix that has also never been released before.

Its march 15 in all major download shops.

I have to make some noise about this fantastic little world of its own – hiding on the internet among 10000000000000000000 other “interesting” things.  But this is really great I must say.

Its one of these things that really stands out – in my opinion anyway.

Its called “Weird tales for winter”, and obviously as we are now aproaching  spring, its a bit too late to call it news but hey… its still fantastic. A collective hauntological radio series curated by Johnny Mugwamp.

As part of his exotic Pylon radio show. And Vanessa Daou tapped into a veine of beauty, melancholy and mysterious words and voices that are sure to inspire a thirsty soul. She calls her tale “Love among the shadowed things”.
